The secret life of a former Nazi war criminal, who spied for America’s Central Intelligence Agency after the Second World War in return for a fake Jewish identity, was disclosed yesterday. The story of how Günter Reinemer, an S.S. lieutenant who commanded death squads at the Treblinka concentration camp, escaped the death penalty because of the CIA is told in a documentary to be screened in Germany next month.

  • Guenter Renemer aka Hans Wagner was arrested by the Venezuelan secret service in August 1988 and tortured with electrical cattle prods after the company voiced its suspicions about him. Herr Matschke persuaded the authorities to let him take over. At first Reinemer stuck to his story that he was a Jewish businessman. “Then, after about a week of questioning him, I threw a thick bundle of files on to my desk and just shouted at him: ‘Name, rank, last military assignment.’ “Perhaps the tone of command, perhaps the weariness from the past few days, perhaps a need to break with the past – I don’t know what it was, but he looked up and said: ‘Reinemer, SS Death’s-Head Division, Treblinka.’ It was the start of a comprehensive confession.”

Among the firms that furnished Zyklon B to the camp was Slupetzky, a supplier of disinfectants located in Linz. Its owner, **Anton Slupetzky, was an Obersturmbannfuhrer in the Sturmabteilungen, commonly known as the SA – the brown-shirted “storm troopers.” He personally participated in gassings at Mauthausen and Gusen. In addition, he attended the well-known “prussic-acid congress” held in Frankfurt-am-Main on 27 and 28 January 1944. It was there that the SS leadership informed the representatives of the production and distribution firms, such as Degesch (Frankfurt), Tesch and Stabenow (Hamburg), Heerdt-Lingler (Frankfurt), the Dessau Works, and I. G. Farbenindustrie, of further plans to use Zyklon B.

The SS attained the rank of SS-Obersturmführer . Before the outbreak of war he owned firm disinfection .Since June 1941 he was responsible for disinfection in Gusen, Mauthausen sub-camp.On this occasion, gassed prisoners and prisoners of the Soviet Cyclone B , the gas is used for disinfection. Slupetzky tried to protest against this practice, but did not bring results. Slupetzky was convicted in the crew Mauthausen (U.S. vs. Karl Glas, and others) by the American Military Tribunal in Dachau on 5 years’ imprisonment.

2006 RAG acquired Degussa AG [8], which was later renamed Evonik-Degussa GmbH. In 1998, Degussa instructed the American historian Peter Hayes to clarify the company history during the Third Reich.[9] One of the former subsidiaries of Degussa, the Degesch (translation: German Corporation for Pest control), was the main manufacturer and distributor of the chemical Zyklon B, which was used to execute people in gas chambers of German death camps during the Holocaust.[10] Degussa had also processed gold dental fillings removed from the mouths of death-camp inmates.[11] The historical significance of Degussa appeared again in the publicity during their involvement in the building of the Holocaust Memorial in Berlin, because the plasticizer and the anti-graffiti coating were produced by Degussa. Therefore, the work on the memorial was interrupted to clarify the situation. In November 2003, the trustees decided to finish the building with the involvement of Degussa.[12] Heerdt-Linger (Heli) Leimfilme for plywood processing based on synthetic resins and through the work of Friedrich Bergius first emulsifiers, which laid the foundation for the business “Care Specialities” of Degussa laid. The “Theo Goldschmidt AG,” held during the Second World War, the shares of Degesch and Orgacid Ltd , the Zyklon B or mustard gas manufactured.

During the IG Farben trial the director of Degesch, Dr. Gerhard Friedrich Peters implicated himself. He received information by Kurt Gerstein about the murder of people using Zyklon B and was informed that the German army needed the gas without the usual additives that were added to warn people by smell of its poisonous nature.[1] In 1949 Peters was charged with murder in the court of Frankfurt and convicted to five years. The conviction was in 1952 legally confirmed in an appeal and set to six years. Peters went to prison but was acquitted in an new appeal in 1953. The law had changed; he was no longer considered guilty in assisting in murder. The chairman of the board of directors from 1939 to 1945, **[see below]August Hermann Schlosser,[2] was arrested in February 1948 and acquitted in April 1948; later he took another job as chairman of the board.

The owner and the director of Tesch & Stabenow were convicted and sentenced to death by a British tribunal and executed in Hamelin prison. The German society for pest control GmbH (short: Degesch) based in Frankfurt am Main was a chemical company that dealt with the distribution of pesticides (in particular insecticide agents) and also as a service in silos and warehouses to apply them. She was the owner of the patent for the production of Zyklon B, which was used for mass killings in several death camps in Nazi Germany. Labels for Zyklon B Tesch & Stabenow/Degesch

The Degesch was involved in two companies which geographically divided per sale of Zyklon B: Tesch & Stabenow GmbH (testa) from 1927 to 1942 with 55%, then by Bruno Tesch – exclusively for the area east of the Elbe Heerdt-Lingler GmbH (HeLi) – for the area west of the Elbe. This company was headed by 1941 in personal Union by the Degesch, Dr. Gerhard Peters, Managing Director. 1979 merged the newly founded after the war Testa with Heerdt-Lingler GmbH (HeLi) with the financial participation of Degesch [1]. The Kaiser Wilhelm Institute for physical chemistry and electrochemistry (KWI) under the direction of Fritz Haber dealt with the problem of mass sourcing of insect pests and rodents in Mills and the Verlausung in mass accommodation around 1915.

The Institute also developed among for the war effort. the Technical Committee for pest control TASCH founded in 1917 in which the KWI and the company Degussa were represented. It was the first fumigation with hydrogen cyanide under leadership of this Committee, which was dissolved after the end of World War I in April 1917.[2] Before the dissolution of the TASCH on 31 March 1919 the German society for pest control was founded on the initiative of Fritz Habers [3] on 13 March 1919 in Berlin mbH with the participation of the German Reich as a non-profit business enterprises. The registered capital of 1.010.000 marks was provided by ten companies including the Degussa and BASF. History 1919-1945 in 1920 the relocation of headquarter was in Frankfurt am Main, later according to Friedberg. 1920 retired Fritz Haber, Managing Director was ****Walter Heerdt.[4] (He testified as an eyewitness)

From 1922, the company ran under private law. Degussa was the sole shareholder; next **Dr. Walter Heerdt held management, which in 1922 was a method for the absorption of low boiling prussic acid in diatomaceous earth (DRP 438.818 issued on 27 December 1926, patented June 20, 1922). That product was given the name “Zyklon B”. 1922 the Degesch took up negotiations with the sugar refinery GmbH, Dessauer through the production of Zyklon B. in 1924, the authorities approved the production. On behalf of and for the account of the Degussa Dessauer sugar refinery GmbH has produced now Zyklon B, which then Commission-free was delivered to the Degesch.[5] This had a dedicated branch in Dessau. The sales of their products was the company “Tesch & Stabenow” and “Heerdt Lingler”. 1930 Farben participated with 30% of Degesch. in 1936 the shareholder ratio changed again. Now, the Degesch belonged to Farben Dyes, 42.5% of the Degussa and 15% of the th. Goldschmidt to 42.5% IG Farben.[6] Until 1930, the need for Zyklon B grew to 100,000 kg per month.[2] Company’s history after 1945 After the end of World War II, the Degesch continued their ancestral business. After forced resolution of i.g. dues were the following partners: Bayer AG in Leverkusen with 37.5 % Degussa AG with 37.5 % Th. Goldschmidt AG with 25 % the Degesch to a competitor that sold Detia Freyberg GmbH in Laudenbach, which continues the business under the company Detia Degesch GmbH was in 1986. Detia Freyberg GmbH as well as the Detesch still a blue säurehaltiges insecticides under the names Cyanosil and Zedesa hydrogen cyanide for inland and as cyclone for foreign produce [7].

The subsidiary of DEGESCH America, Inc sells fumigant in the United States [8]. The company of Degesch de Chile Ltda exists in Chile [9]. Criminal consequences In the IG Farben-colors process had is the Managing Director of Degesch, Dr. Gerhard Friedrich Peters, as a witness even indirectly impacted. He had been informed of Kurt Gerstein about the killing of people with Zyklon B and requested delivery of the gas without the usual blending of warning and irritant. Peters therefore faced the jury court in Frankfurt in 1949 and penitentiary was sentenced to the murder initially to five years for aid. The penalty was set in 1953 in the revision procedure legally for six years; Peters joined the punishment. But 1955 Peters in the retrial was acquitted, as “unsuccessful aid” through criminal law amendment Act of August 1953 to have interpretation was no longer punishable. It is not sure that people had been killed with the supplied 3970 kg poison without irritant because Gerstein have known Zyklon B partly as corrupted and deprived of the intended purpose of the killing. The Chairman of the Board from 1939 to 1945, **Hermann Schlosser [10], had as a witness for the prosecution in the trial against the Board of i.g. colors by his statement of the aid suspicious made himself. He was arrested in February 1948, acquitted in April; later, he could officiate again as Chairman.[2] The owner of the shipping company Tesch & Stabenow, Bruno Tesch and his Managing Director were sentenced to death and executed in the prison of Hamelin.

Dr. Walter Heerdt. Chemiker, geb. 1888, gest. 2.2.1957.
Dr. Walter Heerdt is regarded as the inventor of Zyklon B. The patent was while logged in from the Degesch, but entered the Heerdt as the inventor. “0.8 To 1.7% of the sold quantity of Zyklon B was Heerdts remuneration from the inventor contract.”
When supplementing the inventor contract (the 1943 ran out) would have the Degesch wanted like an advanced collaboration of Heerdts and asked the set “Inventions in the field of pesticides” therefore the addition “, as well as the poison and irritants” to expand.
Dr. Heerdt rejected this add-on that could include military applications: “After careful consideration I would ask you, to drop the idea of an extension of my commitment to poison and irritants.” “It seems to me a such consideration in the context of such contract to fit.”
